Timolol (marketed as Tiloptic, V-optic, etc.) is the most common and well-known medication in the beta-blocker family.

Clinical Use

Timolol is usually administered at a dosage of twice a day (or once a day in gel formulations). Due to its high efficacy, it serves as the complementary ingredient in almost all types of 'combination medications' (a mix of two active ingredients in one bottle, for example: Cosopt, Combigan, Xalacom).

When to Avoid?

As with the entire beta-blocker class, timolol is not recommended for patients suffering from severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or significant cardiac conduction issues (such as bradycardia - an abnormally slow heart rate).
