Dorzolamide (known by the brand name Trusopt) was the first eye drop to hit the market from the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor family.
Efficacy and Combinations
The medication is highly effective in reducing intraocular fluid production. It is frequently used as part of a combination drug containing timolol as well (such as Cosopt), which enhances the pressure-lowering effect using one bottle, twice a day.
Side Effects
The most common complaint with dorzolamide use is a stinging and burning sensation upon contact with the eye (which passes after a few seconds), and occasionally a bitter or metallic taste in the throat.
